Pressurized oxygen
Inside the chamber, atmospheric pressure is raised above normal while you breathe 100% oxygen. This dissolves oxygen directly into your blood plasma, far beyond what red blood cells alone can carry.
Hyperbaric Oxygen
Supports perfusion in grafted tissue at risk of failure, improving successful integration and healing.
Mechanism
Skin grafts and flaps depend on establishing a new blood supply quickly to survive. When that perfusion is compromised, HBOT improves oxygen delivery to the at-risk tissue, supporting successful integration and reducing the risk of graft or flap failure.
Inside the chamber, atmospheric pressure is raised above normal while you breathe 100% oxygen. This dissolves oxygen directly into your blood plasma, far beyond what red blood cells alone can carry.
Damaged or poorly circulated tissue often heals slowly because it lacks oxygen. HBOT floods these areas, supporting new blood vessel growth and tissue regeneration.
Treatment courses are prescribed by your physician, typically a series of daily sessions over several weeks, with progress reported back to the referring physician.
Evidence
Your physician confirms whether your condition qualifies for one of the 14 OHIP-approved indications before treatment begins.
Process
Your physician sends a referral. We review it, confirm OHIP coverage for your indication, and book your intake assessment.
Most treatments are 90 minutes of oxygen, about 2 hours in total. You rest comfortably in the chamber. Many patients listen to music, watch TV, or nap. You may feel pressure in your ears, similar to a plane landing.
We monitor your progress throughout the course and report outcomes back to your referring physician.
A multicenter study of over 1,500 cases finding significantly improved survival when HBOT was added to surgical treatment.
Read publication Hyperbaric Oxygen International Journal of Molecular SciencesA review of how HBOT enhances bone formation and healing, including in chronic infections such as osteomyelitis.
Read publication Hyperbaric Oxygen Critical CareFound recovery rates dropped from about 65% to 30% as treatment was delayed, underscoring how quickly HBOT should begin.
